The Heart Story.

By Cynthia Harris

Some people believe that life happens in seven-year cycles. I don’t know if this is true (and I don’t follow astrology), but the Heart business began seven years ago as Heart Recruitment and we’re now entering a new chapter.

Heart history

In 2015, my life was full of change and many firsts. It was my first year of marriage. We had our first baby. We bought our first property. I moved back to my home town after living away for 12 years.

The idea of starting my own business had been on my mind for a few years, and at this point, I thought, why not?

The last seven years have been an incredible journey in more ways than one. It all started (like many small business stories) at my kitchen table. I’d always hated Valentine's Day, but once I chose the name Heart, it had to be a February launch.

In 2016, six weeks before my daughter's first birthday, the Heart brand was born. Its values were authentic, knowledgeable and passionate. I had a fantastic first year and was excited about the future.

The early years were a wild ride. Starting a business and having two babies within two years was optimistically ambitious. And there have certainly been plenty of moments when I thought “what have I done?!”

Since the beginning of my recruitment career (way back in 2005), I’ve always loved supporting charity organisations. To make Heart’s services as attractive to the NFP sector as possible, in 2019, I launched our first flexible service, Heart Shortlist.

Over the next few years (and despite the challenges of COVID), Heart saw some significant growth. Our client partnerships and services grew organically and I welcomed my first team member, Shelby.

2022 was another big year, we welcomed four new team members, Lily, Rachael, Shannon and Lucy.

Now in 2023, we are evolving. We are no longer Heart Recruitment. We are Heart Talent.

What’s in a name? Why Heart Talent?

As talent engagement and marketing specialists, we know words matter.

Changing our name to Heart Talent is significant because it reflects how the business and the world of work have evolved.

Heart remains core to our ethos. Putting people at the heart of the business has always been the primary driver behind our brand.

We value authenticity and relationships. We partner with purpose and mission-led organisations and businesses.

The inclusion of talent reflects our modern marketing-led approach to supporting leaders to tackling talent challenges in the new world of work. We help you attract, engage and retain.

What we do (and how we do it)

We love helping people build careers they love and happy, engaged teams.

We believe recruitment is marketing.

We also believe that a positive, proactive employer brand is key to attracting and retaining the right talent.

Partnering with employers beyond the hiring process is a natural evolution for a marketing-focused recruitment business.

Engagement and retention rely on the employee experience and once you have a clear picture of this, you have the foundation for your employer brand.

We help organisations understand their employer brand, shape employee experience, define their value and attract the best talent, now and in the future.

As talent and marketing specialists, we:

  • connect people

  • solve problems

  • help employers understand their value and articulate it

  • help transform organisations through talent.

We are a purpose-led organisation

We believe helping people is more important than money.

Beyond our flexible, cost-effective services; we support charitable organisations through the Heart Giving Program.

With every Heart Exclusive placement, we donate 10% of the fee to an Australian charity, chosen by the person we’ve just connected with a new job.

Since 2021, we’ve donated more than $19,000 through this program.

We live and work by our ethos: expect better

When you partner with Heart, expect better means you can expect better results, better value and better quality talent. You can also expect better collaboration and a true partnership with your organisation. We foster genuine connections, give honest advice and always communicate in a professional and timely manner. We aim to add value and solve problems, sharing information and insights along the way.

If you apply for a role with Heart, expect better means treating people the way you would like to be treated. It means responding to every application and offering better communication, engagement and support. We give honest advice and provide the tools and information to help people make the right decision.

Our business has always stood for recruitment done better

As the world of work changes, so have we.

Heart Talent is proud to be the only business supporting purpose-led organisations with flexible services across talent engagement, attraction and recruitment marketing.
